Community Plan

What is the Community Plan?

Under the Local Government Act 2009, all local governments are required to produce and adopt a minimum 10-year Community Plan.

The Community Plan is a plan for the Gold Coast community, which includes key actions and activities which will support the delivery of the Bold Future Vision.

Council will develop and deliver the Community Plan in partnership with the community, including government, business, interest groups, individuals and the wider community.

How does the Community Plan fit with Bold Future Vision?

During the development of the Bold Future Vision, over 11,000 community responses were received on the vision for the city in the year 2040. The Bold Future Vision identifies six key focus areas that will drive the delivery of this vision:

• A city leading by example
• A city loved for its green, gold and blue
• A city connecting people and places
• A city with a thriving economy
• A safe city where everyone belongs
• A city shaped by clever design

The Community Plan will support the delivery of the Bold Future Vision through the identification of strategic priorities, high level actions, targets and performance measures against each of these six key focus areas.

How does the Community Plan fit with Council's planning process?

The Bold Future Vision sets out the ambition to inspire the city's leaders and the community to achieve social, environmental, economic and community sustainability into the future.

The Community Plan provides the 10 year view of the Bold Future Vision and how we will achieve that vision. The 5-year Corporate Plan will outline how Council will contribute to implementing the outcomes and actions in the Community Plan.

The Bold Future Vision is the vision for the City. The Community Plan supports the Bold Future Vision. The Corporate Plan 2009-14 and Long Term Financial Plans support the Community Plan. Supporting the Corporate Plan is the Annual Operational Plan and Annual Budget.

What has happened so far?

On 15 April 2011, Council adopted the Bold Future Vision, plus a suite of documents, plans and reports as the basis for the first Community Plan.
