City unveils Bold Future plan to address climate change
WHAT - Presentation of the draft Gold Coast Climate Change Strategy
WHERE - Council’s Nerang Administration Centre, committee meeting room
WHEN - Tuesday, 5 May, following 2 pm Sustainable City Future Committee.
A ground-breaking draft strategy, aimed at addressing and managing climate change on the Gold Coast will be unveiled on Tuesday (5/5).
The draft Climate Change Strategy will be presented to Council's Sustainable City Future Committee, which begins at 2 pm.
A media briefing, directly after the committee meeting, will provide the opportunity to ask further questions about the strategy and conduct interviews.
Committee chairperson, Councillor Peter Young, said the draft strategy had been developed by Council, with some funding assistance from the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change.
"This strategy could well be Australia's most comprehensive local plan to address, and respond to, climate change," Cr Young said.
He said the strategy would build on a range of existing initiatives, including leading flood mitigation and management plans, leading-edge studies in association with the CSIRO and Griffith University, and would help implement the community's Bold Future vision for the Gold Coast.
