What: Mayor Ron Clarke launches Bold Future. Young Gold Coast Citizen of the Year, Yoo-Ree Lee, speaks about her vision for the Gold Coast. Attending will be Bold Future champions, President of the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame and former elite athlete, Daphne Pirie; prominent local businessman, Frank Goldstein; Gold Coast photographer, newspaper columnist and undisputed society queen, Regina King and Gold Coast City Council Chief Lifeguard and king of the beach, Warren Young.
Background: Bold Future, one of the most exciting projects ever undertaken on the Gold Coast, will develop a blueprint for our city until 2037. Bold Future is a 30-year road trip – and residents are being handed the wheel.
The aim is for at least one person in every Gold Coast household to give their views on how to safeguard the environmental, economic and social sustainability of our city over the next three decades. For the next 12 months, the Council will use city forums, online surveys, hard copy surveys and competitions to determine Gold Coasters’ priorities for their city on nine key themes: energy, beaches, culture, the economy, water, environment, transport, the community and land use.
An advisory committee of prominent community representatives will consider the data and mould the community’s wish list into a Bold Future blue print for the Gold Coast, including actions and time frames.
Bold Future will determine the direction of the Council’s Corporate Plan, which will detail a rolling strategy that will be envy of other cities.
